Need some custom sewing work to create a design from scratch or custom-fit to your size? Hire a seamstress or dressmaker to create or customise your dress or garment. They’ll start by measuring your shape and size with a soft tape measure to ensure the perfect fit. They’ll consult with you on designs and fabrics, before choosing or customising a pattern and cutting out the pieces. They’ll sew your garment or dress, taking care to finish off any edges with an overlocking stitch. Most dressmakers will request you to come in for a final fitting where you can try on the (mostly finished) garment and they can make final adjustments.
Formal wear alterations
When you want to look your best, it’s so important that your clothing is tailored to perfectly fit. Whether you need bridal alterations, school graduation alterations, corporate wear alterations, or suit alterations, a professional seamstress can help. They’ll take your exact measurements and then ask you to try on the outfit or dress, ideally with the shoes you plan to wear. Then they’ll note or mark up any parts that need taking in or loosening, and where the hem needs to sit based on your shoe height.
